Harrow Weald had 2,814 people in 1921 and 10,928 in 1931, and the Victoria County History says most of the building between the wars was infilling on farm-land, especially south of Uxbridge Road.

Steel-framed and concrete houses round Langton Road
After the Second World War the streets round Langton Road took factory-made houses. An online index of modern housing (UKMOHO) lists steel-framed BISF houses and Orlit houses, built of precast concrete panels, on Langton Road and the streets around it, dated to the 1940s and 50s. The Prefab Museum's page on these houses puts a large group of BISF houses inside the square of Hutton Lane, Boxtree Lane, Uxbridge Road and Courtenay Avenue, once the Cedars council estate, and says many have been sold and re-clad.
Renting from the council or a housing association is the main tenure there. In the census area round Langton Road (Harrow 006A), 56.9% of the 501 households rented from the council or a housing association in 2021, against 18.0% across the ward. Old Redding, Grim's Dyke and the houses by the common
North of Uxbridge Road the Weald built up more slowly and stayed partly wooded. Grim's Dyke, in the woods north of Old Redding, was built in 1872 for the painter Frederick Goodall to designs by Norman Shaw. W. S. Gilbert lived there from 1890 until he died in 1911; the house is listed Grade II* and is now a hotel. Old Redding was also where the Blackwell family put up the cottages known as 'the City' for workers at their brickworks.
Houses are bigger up here. In the census area that takes in Brookshill and Harrow Weald Park (Harrow 004A), 37.9% of households lived in a detached house in 2021. Kitchens in houses that size more often have room for a 90cm range or an AGA.

Parking in Harrow Weald, and the C2 proposal
Most of Harrow Weald has no controlled parking on the council's zone map. Langton Road, Boxtree Lane, Courtenay Avenue and Brookshill are outside every zone, while Fontwell Close has a small zone of its own, controlled 10 to 11am and 2 to 3pm on weekdays.
The southern edge may change. After complaints about Weald Lane and Stanhope Avenue the council consulted in 2025, and in spring 2026 it asked again about a smaller area (Stanhope Avenue, Sefton Avenue, Enderley Road and parts of Weald Lane among them) where some roads had backed controls from 8am to midnight, every day. The council's C2 parking review page has the plans; until a zone is made, the signs in your road are what count. The team needs somewhere to park.

Yes, the night before, so it has cooled by the time we start. A two-oven AGA is £143 and takes about half a day.
