The Ladder is twenty parallel streets running east to west between Green Lanes and Wightman Road, built out between 1880 and 1900 on the Hornsey and Harringay Park estates, and the Harringay Passage cuts north to south straight through the middle of all twenty. The Passage is for feet only. If your house backs onto it there is no rear vehicle access at all, so the racks and shelves come out through the front door and down the path to the van.
Late-Victorian terraces, mostly split into flats
Two, three and four-bedroom terraces of that period, and a large share of them converted into upper and lower flats. A converted flat usually means one 60cm freestanding cooker in a narrow galley, which is the £77 job. The unconverted whole houses on the Ladder tend to have had a side return done and a fitted double put in, and that is £110. Green Lanes itself is the A105, lined with ocakbasi grills and 24-hour greengrocers, and the flats above that parade are their own thing: small kitchens, heavy use, neglected extractor hoods.
Green Lanes has the tightest parking rules in this part of N4
Green Lanes zone A is controlled Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm at £4.10 an hour, and pay and display only runs from 10am to 4pm inside that. Zone B next door drops Saturday but keeps the rest. The Ladder rungs are permit-holder bays for most of their length. A Sunday slot sidesteps all of it, and we work Sundays.

Which postcode is Harringay?
It straddles three. The Ladder and Green Lanes are largely N4 and N8, and the streets east towards South Tottenham fall into N15. Harringay Green Lanes station, on the Suffragette line, opened in 1880 and sits between Crouch Hill and South Tottenham.
Do you clean the extractor hood as well?
Yes, £28, in the same visit. Worth asking about in the Green Lanes flats where the grease build-up on a hood usually outpaces the oven.
Is there a smell afterwards?
No. The caustic soak is sealed in the tank in the van. Non-caustic products only inside the flat, on the cavity, the fan cover and the glass.
Can you get a booking at the weekend?
Seven days a week, and around here the weekend is often the sensible choice because of the Green Lanes controls. A single oven is about ninety minutes.
