Harefield Grove is a Grade II listed early-19th-century house on Rickmansworth Road, in Green Belt land near Harefield Hospital, and it is being converted into new homes. Around it the housing is village stock: detached houses, semis and old cottages rather than blocks of flats. In the larger detached houses off Rickmansworth Road and up towards the High Street, a freestanding range or an AGA is common, and because the village kept its bigger period kitchens rather than carving them into flats, we quote more of these than we would on a comparable street in Uxbridge or Hillingdon. We cool the AGA, lift the lids and shelves into the heated tank in the van, and hand-clean the cast-iron top by hand before heat-testing it. That is £143 for a two-oven AGA. Getting there and parking
Harefield is semi-rural, and you reach the village by driving three miles through countryside before the High Street, past the Kings Arms and Harefield Health Centre. Driveways are usually generous, so parking the van close is rarely the problem it is in Kenton or Sudbury. Harefield sits well outside the North and South Circular, so there is no call-out fee.
