Hanover Square was a bus turnaround until fairly recently. The rebuilt scheme finished in 2021 and half-pedestrianised the square, widened Tenterden Street, and put the Medici Courtyard through the middle of it, the first public courtyard to open in Mayfair in more than a century; the eastern entrance to the Elizabeth line at Bond Street sits inside 18 Hanover Square and opened in October 2022. All of which matters to us for one reason. There is barely any housing in it.
W1S is offices, and the homes are the exception
The residential part of the Hanover Square Estate is six apartments at 14 Brook Street, running to about 12,700 square feet between them, and the Mandarin Oriental residences sit on the south-western corner of the square where it meets Brook Street. That is the pattern across this postcode: a small number of large, serviced, high-specification flats rather than streets of ordinary ones. The kitchens follow. Wide cookers, heavy doors, appliances chosen by an interior designer, and a two-oven AGA is no more surprising here than a builder's single would be in Zone 3.

A Mayfair postcode does not add anything to that. If yours is a wide cooker, range cooker cleaning in Mayfair is £114 for a 90cm and the price is quoted before we set off.
Access, kerbside, and the Conservation Area
All of this is in the Mayfair Conservation Area, inside the Congestion Charge zone and inside the ULEZ, and Westminster controls every metre of kerb around the square. Since the pedestrianisation there is less of it than there used to be. The heated tank stays in the van, so tell us the entrance, the floor and whether there is a porter, and we will work out where to put the vehicle. Concierge blocks usually want a name in advance.

Can you clean an AGA that stays on?
A two-oven AGA is £143 and it wants turning off and left to cool first, so we normally book it a day after you shut it down.
Will there be any smell in the flat afterwards?
No. Caustic dipping happens in the van. Indoors we use non-caustic products and hand tools, then heat-test the oven before signing it off.
