The houses facing Hampton Court Palace have KT8 postcodes and East Molesey on the envelope, yet they stand on the palace side of the Thames in Richmond upon Thames. East Molesey itself, in Elmbridge, Surrey, starts across Hampton Court Bridge.
Hampton Court addresses on the Richmond bank
Hampton Court station is over there too: it opened on 1 February 1849 on the Surrey bank, about 100 yards short of the bridge, in East Molesey. The present bridge, of red brick and Portland stone, was built in 1933 to a design by W.P. Robinson with Sir Edwin Lutyens. This page is for the palace side: Hampton Court Road, Campbell Road and Palace Gate. For the streets across the river, see the East Molesey page; the price list is the same on both banks.
Georgian houses round the Green
Richmond Council's 2023 appraisal of the Hampton Court Green conservation area counts 28 listed buildings, and many of the houses date from the Georgian period. Sir Christopher Wren lived in the Old Court House as Surveyor-General, and Prince Albert granted Michael Faraday the house on Hampton Court Road that now carries his name. Campbell Road is a narrow gravel cul-de-sac of two-storey cottages and three-storey Georgian houses, Prestbury House (1743) among them. Along Hampton Court Road East the houses back on to Bushy Park and are mostly built into its boundary wall; their front gardens were later built over to serve palace visitors (tea rooms among them, after Queen Victoria opened the palace to the public in 1838), and most of those frontages are now homes. On Hampton Court Road West the houses have deep back gardens running down to the river.

The Census area around the Green and Hampton Court Road (Richmond upon Thames 023B) had 803 households in 2021. A quarter of them, 25.5%, lived in a detached house, and 47.9% owned their home outright, well above the borough's 30.4%.
AGAs and range cookers in the older houses
Kitchens in houses of this age and size are where a range cooker or an AGA is likeliest to turn up, though a built-in double is just as possible. An AGA needs planning ahead, which the block below explains; the AGA cleaning page covers the method.
- Two-oven AGA
- A cast-iron cooker that stores heat and is normally left on. It must be switched off the night before so it is cool when we arrive, and the clean takes about half a day.
- 90cm range cooker
- A freestanding cooker with a wide hob over its ovens. 2 to 3 hours on site.
Either way, the racks, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the inside of the cooker and the door glass are degreased by hand, on dust sheets.

Zone H parking runs seven days a week
The council's Zone H, Hampton Court, is controlled Monday to Sunday from 8.30am to 6.30pm in its shared-use permit and pay-and-display bays, and until 8pm in its shared-use permit bays, bank holidays included. A weekend visit does not escape it. The appraisal notes that traffic has been a problem here since the palace opened to visitors. Several houses on Hampton Court Road are known by a name rather than a number, so give us the house name and the nearest gate when you book, and we can plan where the van stops. Check the signs on your own road for the bay type.
Hampton Court oven cleaning questions
My address says East Molesey but I live by the palace. Is that a problem?
No. Royal Mail puts the houses by the palace in the East Molesey post town, though the council is Richmond upon Thames. Tell us the house name and road and we know where to come.
Can you clean a two-oven AGA?
Yes, for £143. Switch it off the night before so it has cooled by the morning; the clean takes about half a day.
Is a Sunday cheaper or easier to park?
The price is the same any day of the week. Parking is not easier, because Zone H runs on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays too.
How long does a single oven take?
About 90 minutes, then the oven is heated with you there and you check it before we go.

What customers tell us
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
