Chassereau's map of 1745 shows most of Haggerston's few buildings in one spot, fronting what looks like a village green in the south-west angle of Nursery Lane (now Laburnum Street) and Haggerston Lane (now Weymouth Street); Cary's map of 1792 shows no further building.
From fields to estates, twice over
On the western edge, the Ironmongers' Company built Sir Robert Geffrye's almshouses on Kingsland Road about 1715: two storeys and a basement round three sides of a garden, each house with a central staircase, a room either side on both floors, and a wash-house and fuel store below. The London County Council bought them and opened them in 1914 as the Geffrye Museum, now the Museum of the Home.
Much of the rest was rebuilt in the 20th century. The Imperial Gas Company had a gasworks on the site of what is now Haggerston Park from 1823; the works were bombed and destroyed in the Second World War, and in 1956 the London County Council laid out the northern half of Haggerston Park on the site, with the city farm and playing fields added to the south in the 1980s. On the north bank of the Regent's Canal, east of Kingsland Road, the London County Council built the Haggerston estate between 1935 and 1948. Hackney Council reported on 13 October 2009 that demolition had begun on the Haggerston West and Kingsland estates, which tenants had voted in 2007 to transfer to the housing association L&Q, to replace just over 400 homes with 761 new flats and houses.
Haggerston is a ward of flats. At the 2021 Census, 82.0% of its households lived in a purpose-built block and only 7.0% in a terraced house. Of the ward's 6,254 households, nearly half (47.2%) rented from the council or a housing association, 31.1% rented privately, 17.2% owned and 4.3% were in shared ownership.
A flat finished in the last fifteen years often has an integrated oven with a separate hob; an older estate kitchen may still have a freestanding cooker. The method is the same for both. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, over dust sheets.

Parking each side of the canal
The canal splits Haggerston between two of Hackney's parking zones. On the council's map and zone list:
- South of the canal: zone F (Hoxton)
- Kingsland Road's east side, Pearson Street, Whiston Road and Yorkton Street by the park. Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm, and Saturday 8.30am to 1.30pm.
- North of the canal: zone J (Queensbridge)
- Clarissa Street and the streets round Haggerston station. Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm.
Some streets carry their own signs, so the plate by the bay decides. A new block with an underground car park or a loading bay is worth mentioning when you book.

I am moving out of a privately let flat. Can the agent have the invoice?
Yes. The invoice can be made out to the letting agency, with photos for the checkout file if they want them, and keys for an empty flat can be picked up by arrangement.
Is a Saturday afternoon easier for parking?
South of the canal, zone F's Saturday controls end at 1.30pm, and zone J has none on Saturdays. Weekend visits are charged at the weekday price.
Can the extractor over an integrated hob be cleaned too?
Yes, at £28 with the oven. A single oven, hob and extractor booked together are £117.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
