The park sets the shape of the work
Hackney Downs is 16 hectares of old common land, kept open from the 1860s after the Commons Preservation Society pushed back on building, and the housing wraps around it: Amhurst Road to the south, Kenninghall Road to the north, Cricketfield Road to the east, the railway to the west. Hackney Downs station puts you into Liverpool Street on the Lea Valley line.
One tower survived out of six
The Nightingale Estate went up in 1968 with six 22-storey blocks of 65 metres each, built by the Greater London Council, and five of them came down: Farnell Point was imploded on 26 July 1998, Embley Point and Southerland Point followed on 3 December 2000, and Rathbone and Rachel went last in November 2003. Seaton Point is the one still standing, refurbished and painted white. What replaced the rest is low-rise, and the regeneration will have added more than 750 homes when it is finished. So one estate, two kitchen types:
- Seaton Point flats, mostly older fitted cookers with loose shelves and heavy carbon under the element.
- The low-rise replacements, integrated single ovens with an induction or ceramic hob above. A hob clean is £23–28 on the same visit.
Zone R only bites from 7am to 11am
The Rectory Road zone, on the western side of the Downs, is controlled Monday to Friday between 7am and 11am and nothing else. Outside that you park free, yellow lines aside. It is an unusually short window for Hackney. Booking an afternoon slot on those streets is the easy option, and it costs you nothing either way.

Can you work in a flat high up in Seaton Point?
Yes. The parts go down to the van in the lift and come back once the tank has done its work. Height is not the problem; a parking bay near the entrance is.
What does the tank actually do?
It is heated, and it holds the racks, shelves, trays and side runners while the grease lifts off them. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are separate, degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products.
Do you cover landlords and letting agents?
Yes, and the check-out oven clean is a regular booking on these streets. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave, so there is a working appliance to hand over.
