Gunnersbury station opened in 1869 as Brentford Road and took the name Gunnersbury in 1871. Hounslow's appraisal of the Wellesley Road conservation area says the area drew prestige from its nearness to Gunnersbury Park, to the north-west, and the name was used freely.

South of Chiswick High Road, Adam Askew's estate came first. Sutton Lane follows a lane to the old hamlet of Little Sutton that is on Rocque's map of 1746; Gordon Road, off its west side, had been built up by 1894. Today the mix is wide. In the census area round Gordon Road (Hounslow 008A), 44.2% of the 703 households lived in purpose-built flats in 2021, 18.1% in converted or shared houses and 19.8% in semis, while in the next census area, round Burnaby Gardens, terraced houses made up 54.0% of homes.

Parking in the Fauconberg Road and Grove Park zones
Hounslow's parking map puts Gordon Road, Burnaby Gardens and Fauconberg Road in the Fauconberg Road zone, and the Sutton Lane end in the Grove Park Residents zone. Both are controlled from 10am to noon, Monday to Friday, so an afternoon or weekend visit falls outside zone hours. The council says its map is guidance and the street signs decide.
