Gunnersbury Park runs to 75 hectares and Ealing and Hounslow have run it jointly since the boroughs of Acton and Ealing bought it in 1925. There are no kitchens inside the railings. The housing on the rim is there for an odd reason: the Rothschilds sold on condition the land went to leisure and recreation only, apart from houses allowed to abut Popes Lane and Lionel Road, which were built to help repay the purchase loan.
What turns up in the houses on the rim
Big interwar houses with rear kitchens, mostly. A double at £110 is the usual booking, around two hours. Some have been extended and taken a 90cm range since. Whatever the cooker is, the racks, trays and side runners lift out to the heated tank in the van, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass get degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is nothing to air out afterwards. On a double oven the top cavity and grill usually take longer than the main one.

Parking runs on short windows here
Ealing's Zone J covers Acton Town and takes in Gunnersbury Lane, controlled Monday to Friday from 9am to 10am and again from 3pm to 4pm. Popes Lane itself is not in Zone J. The museum car park through the ornate gates on Popes Lane charges at all times, bank holidays included, and it is for the park rather than for working from. We want the van near the kitchen anyway, since the parts have to go back to the tank.
Is Gunnersbury Park in Ealing or Hounslow?
Both councils run it together, so the streets on opposite sides of the same park sit under different permit schemes. Our prices are the same either side.
Do you charge extra because of the North Circular?
No. Gunnersbury Avenue is the North Circular, and there is no call-out fee inside it. £77 for a single is the price we give on the phone.
How long will the van be outside?
Ninety minutes or so for a single, two hours for a double. Longer if a hob and a hood go on the same visit, at £23–28 and £28.
Do you take the oven door apart?
Where the design allows, yes, so the inner glass gets reached. Some doors are sealed units and those get cleaned as they are.
