Three former diplomatic buildings on one square are now homes and a hotel
Number 1 was Macdonald House, the Canadian High Commission, and it is now flats. Number 20 was the United States Navy headquarters and is now Four Seasons private residences. Eero Saarinen's Grade II listed former American Embassy, built in 1960, reopened in 2025 as the Chancery Rosewood. No other garden square in London has swapped that much of its diplomatic floorplate for domestic kitchens in the space of a decade, and it changes what an oven job here looks like, because a converted chancery has no chimney breasts or Victorian alcoves to work around.
Kitchens in those conversions went in whole, appliance package included. That means integrated single cavities, often two of them stacked in a tall housing rather than one true double, with an induction hob above a bank of drawers. The older mansion flats on the square and along Mount Street keep the porter, the lift, and a smaller kitchen at the back.

What the job runs into on the square
W1K sits in Westminster's Zone E, the Mayfair and St James' parking zone, and the square itself is a 2.5 hectare garden with a road around three sides of it. The van goes on a bay or into a mews. Everything else comes to you. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so a flat with a porter's lobby underneath it does not fill with fumes. The oven is heat-tested before we sign off.

Can you come while the flat is let out?
Yes, and short corporate lets are most of what turns over around here. We work seven days, so a check-out Saturday is fine.
Do you need to speak to the managing agent?
Only if the block wants insurance details before it lets a contractor up. We are insured and DBS-checked, and the certificates go over by email.
How long does it take?
About ninety minutes for a single. Two hours for a double.
Will the racks come back to the flat?
Out of the tank, rinsed, dried, and back in the oven before we leave. Nothing stays in the van.
