Seven houses on the west side of what is now Egerton Drive appear on a map of 1832, the first homes built inside the Ashburnham Triangle, and six of them are now listed. Greenwich West was the name of a council ward until May 2022; since the boundary changes, the triangle's streets have been in Greenwich Park ward.
Houses of the Ashburnham Triangle
The triangle is the quiet grid of streets enclosed by Greenwich High Road, Blackheath Road and Greenwich South Street. The Ashburnham family owned and developed much of the land inside it, which was market gardens until building began around 1830; the main phase was over by about 1870. Greenwich made it a conservation area in July 1980. The council's 2008 appraisal counts 26 listed buildings and 210 more on its local list, mostly terraced or semi-detached houses of yellow London stock brick under slate. The earlier ones are lower, often two floors behind a flat parapet; those of 1845 to 1870 have stucco or stone door-cases. Typical heights are three floors, often with rooms in a basement or the roof, and some 20th-century council blocks rise higher.
In houses like these the kitchen is often at the back or down in the basement, a long way from the street door. That only adds trips. The racks, trays and side runners still come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, on dust sheets, with the door split where it comes apart.
Who lives around Ashburnham Grove
The census area around Ashburnham Grove and Ashburnham Place (Greenwich 038E), part of the triangle, had 704 households in 2021. Terraced houses made up 46.5% of homes, purpose-built flats 29.6% and flats in converted houses 11.3%. Just under half the households (46.6%) owned their home, 31.7% rented from the council or a housing association and 20.9% rented privately. Family houses of this kind often have a larger cooker than a flat does, so the range prices below are worth a look.

Parking in the triangle's streets
The council's 2008 appraisal says front gardens on Ashburnham Grove, Ashburnham Place and Catherine Grove come under an Article 4 direction that brings paving them for parking under planning control, and that Ashburnham Retreat has been closed to vehicles since the 1970s. Greenwich's website has a postcode checker that tells you whether you need a permit, and the sign at the end of the road gives the hours. Nearby, the council's Greenwich Town Centre zone (G) is controlled every day: 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 6pm on Sunday. Is Greenwich West still a ward?

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
