Greenhithe's conservation area dates from 1975 and was extended in 1998. It takes in the narrow High Street and Pier Road. On the High Street most buildings stand right on the pavement, with little or no front garden.

Permit streets near Greenhithe station
Several Greenhithe streets are in Dartford Council's permit parking schemes, among them Riverview Road, Ivy Villas and Ivy Bower Close (visitor permits only there). Castle Street and Providence Street, west of the station, are in the scheme too, though they belong to the Stone side of the parish boundary.
