Goodmayes is named after a farm, and the farm probably after a John Godemay, who was recorded locally in the 14th century. When the Great Eastern Railway opened Goodmayes station on 8 February 1901, the farm stood some distance from it, and one local expert of the day said it was "not quite clear" why the stop had that name.
Corbett's Mayfield estate
The station was built for Archibald Cameron Corbett's Mayfield estate, which he began in the late 1890s beside his Downshall estate at Seven Kings. Corbett also gave the land for Goodmayes Park, laid out in 1901 as a green lung for the new houses. Mayesbrook Road cuts the park in two, and a lake there was made in February 1945 in the crater left by a V2 bomb.
Goodmayes ward, which takes in the streets south of the railway such as Granton Road, Kildowan Road and Aberdour Road, had 4,704 households at the 2021 Census. Of those, 36.6% lived in a terraced house, 22.7% in a semi, 20.9% in a purpose-built flat and 11.4% in part of a converted or shared house. Private renters made up 42.7% of households; 47.7% owned.
Terraces of that age usually have a narrow kitchen in the back addition. When it has been refitted, the oven, the hob and the cooker hood tend to sit within an arm's length of each other, and grease from one ends up on the others.

The Tesco site on the High Road
The goods yard beside the station closed in 1962; once the tracks were lifted, the land was grassed and later given over to a supermarket, shops and housing. In May 2021 Redbridge's planning committee approved Weston Homes' scheme to replace the Tesco store and car park on the High Road with 1,280 homes, 415 of them affordable, a new Tesco and a primary school for 630 pupils. Flats of that kind are usually fitted with a built-in single under an induction or ceramic hob.
Goodmayes A and B are weekday zones
Redbridge's permit zone map shows two zones at the station, Goodmayes A to the south (Granton Road and Kildowan Road among them) and Goodmayes B to the north, covering the High Road by the station and the bottom of Barley Lane. Both are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Aberdour Road and Mayesbrook Road, by the park, are outside them. On a weekday, parking in a zone needs a permit, and the council issues visitor permits. At weekends neither zone is controlled, and Saturday and Sunday visits cost the same as weekdays. Check the signs on your street, as the council's map advises.

An invoice addressed to the agency and photos for the checkout file. Goodmayes is one of the 15 wards in Redbridge's licensing Scheme 4, running to 7 April 2029, so the property itself will usually need a selective licence.
Do you clean the inner door glass?
Where the door design allows. The door is split only where it is made to come apart. The cavity, door glass and seals are cleaned by hand, normally in the kitchen.
How long does a single oven take?
About 90 minutes, or longer if the hob and hood are added.
