Goldhawk Road is the A402. It forms the southern edge of Shepherd's Bush Green, then runs west until the postcode turns over to W6 near Stamford Brook station, which has its main entrance on the road itself. Two ends, two different jobs.
The W12 end is market and flats above shops
Shepherd's Bush Market has traded since 1914, when John Crowe invited costermongers onto Railway Approach beside the Hammersmith and City viaduct, bounded by Uxbridge Road north and Goldhawk Road south. Textiles took the place over. Fabric shops still line the Goldhawk Road frontage, Classic Textiles among the older ones. Above and behind that parade the stock is three and four storey terraces from the late 1800s, most of them long since divided into small flats, which in kitchen terms means a galley with one integrated single oven and a hood that has been painted around more than once.
Queen Charlotte's left a housing estate behind it
Queen Charlotte's Hospital stood at 339-351 Goldhawk Road until October 2000, when it moved next to Hammersmith Hospital. The buildings came down and Crest Nicholson put up the Vitae apartments in their place. The listed administration block, Oakbrook, survived and holds eight private flats. That is the W6 pattern in one site: new-build flats with integrated appliances, plus a period conversion or two, rather than the shop-and-market grain further east.
Controlled parking, and the A402 is not a loading spot
The road sits in Hammersmith and Fulham's controlled parking zones, with pay-and-display and short-stay bays on side roads including Askew Road. The main road carries too much traffic to work from. We find a bay off it and carry the parts, because racks, shelves, trays and side runners go to a heated dip tank in the van, and only the cavity, fan cover and door glass are done indoors by hand with non-caustic products.

The flat is above a shop with a narrow staircase. Is that a problem?
No. Everything that leaves the kitchen is carried, so stairs are normal here.
My landlord wants it done between tenants. How fast is it?
About ninety minutes for a single oven, around two hours for a double. We heat-test and sign off before leaving, so it is ready for the check-in.
Do you do the hob and the hood at the same visit?
Yes. Hob £23–28 by type, extractor hood £28, microwave £22.
Will the kitchen smell of chemicals afterwards?
It should not. Nothing caustic is used indoors.
