Oven cleaning around Gants Hill roundabout from £77, by London Oven Cleaners. The oven is rebuilt and heated, you check it, and any corner still dirty is redone before we go.
Until the 1920s Cranbrook Road ran without a break from Ilford to Barkingside. Eastern Avenue was built across it in the mid-1920s, the roundabout appeared around 1928, and the station underneath was designed by Charles Holden in the 1930s. War stopped the work, and the station opened on 14 December 1947, with a long vaulted concourse inspired by the Moscow Metro.
Flats round the roundabout
The Savoy cinema opened at Gants Hill on 3 September 1934 with 1,726 seats. It was pulled down in March 2003 to make way for multi-storey flats, and Redbridge's 2014 characterisation study notes other tall blocks built near the end of the 20th century, set back from the roundabout. The council's regeneration plan for the district centre sets a target of 500 new homes.
In the census area that covers Gaysham Avenue, Wayside Mews and the corner of Woodford Avenue, there were 726 households in 2021. 31.3% lived in a purpose-built block and another 8.4% in a converted or shared house, and 42.3% rented privately. Flats often have a built-in single under the worktop, and some newer ones have a pyrolytic programme.

- Pyrolytic cycle
- the empty oven heats itself to around 400-500°C and burns grease on the cavity walls to ash. The racks and runners must come out first, and grease between the door panes and on the seal stays put.
- Hand clean
- racks, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand, and the door is split where its design allows.
The 1930s streets behind the parades
An aerial photograph of Gants Hill from October 1933 shows new housing estates spreading across the area; annotations on it pick out Glenham Drive, Gantshill Crescent and Valentines Park. Most of the houses behind the shops are semis and short terraces of that period. On Eastern Avenue beyond Ashurst Drive, pairs of curved, parapetted bay windows give some of them an art-deco look; the study notes front gardens lost to parking on Martley Drive, and on Eastern Avenue east of Ashurst Drive almost all the original ones are gone. An interwar kitchen that has been extended at the back may now hold a double oven or a range.

Red routes at Gants Hill
On Redbridge's map, the roundabout, Eastern Avenue and Woodford Avenue are marked as red routes, where stopping at the kerb is restricted; the red lines and signs say when. A van is unlikely to be able to wait at the kerb outside a block that fronts one of them. Redbridge's permit zone map shows no controlled zone at Gaysham Avenue. The council's Cranbrook Road car park, next to Gants Hill library, has a 7 foot height limit and charges from 7.30am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. If your block has its own visitor bays, tell us when you call. Signs on the street are the final word.
Gants Hill oven questions
The council says my ward is Barkingside. Is this the right page?
Yes. The postcodes round the roundabout, such as IG2 6JX, are in Redbridge's Barkingside ward, but Barkingside High Street is in Fairlop ward and has its own Barkingside page. For landlords, both wards are in the council's selective licensing Scheme 4, which runs to 7 April 2029.
My new oven has a pyrolytic setting. Do I still need a clean?
The cycle does the cavity walls. The racks, runners, door glass and seal still need doing, which is what our pyrolytic self-clean guide covers.
I am on a high floor with a lift. Does that change anything?
Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift when you book.
How long does a single take in a flat?
About 90 minutes on site for a single oven.

Reviews from our rounds
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
