The golf course was laid out by J.H. Taylor in 1904 on land that had been part of Hounslow Heath. The name also belongs to Fulwell Park, north of the Staines Road: King Manoel II of Portugal bought the house in 1910 and owned it until his death in 1932, the house was pulled down the same year, and the grounds were built over for housing after that, with Manoel Road and Lisbon Avenue among the streets that recall him.
