Crabtree Farm, Fulham's last farm, grew vegetables and strawberries for Covent Garden between Fulham Palace Road and Rannoch Road. In 1910 the local estate agents Allen and Norris bought it and built streets of houses over the fields.
Terraces and two-storey flats inland
The council made the Crabtree streets a conservation area in April 1989. Its profile dates the change to the railway extensions of the 1880s, which put Fulham within easy reach of the City. Around 1900 the long run of Fulham Palace Road was built up with low terraces, a mix of houses and two-storey flats, and the farm streets followed after 1910.

The 744 flats on the old distillery site
The riverside was market gardens and a few country houses until the late 19th century, then industry; by 1914 the whole bank between Hammersmith Distillery and the football ground was industrial. The council designated the Fulham Reach conservation area along the river in March 1991, after the borough had begun moving the bank over to housing in the 1970s. St George's Fulham Reach is 744 flats on the site of the Hammersmith Distillery and factories. The last building, Palmer House, has 55 flats; St George launched it in November 2023 and its own page now lists it as ready to move into. The development has a 24-hour concierge.

Who lives in Fulham Reach ward
The ward is named after the riverside scheme, but the scheme's own postcode, W6 9GD, falls in neighbouring Hammersmith Broadway ward, so these figures describe the streets of Fulham Reach ward rather than the 744 flats. It is a big ward: 5,366 households at the 2021 Census. Just over half (52.3%) lived in a purpose-built block and a quarter (25.3%) in a terraced house. Tenure was close to a three-way split, with 36.2% renting privately, 29.9% renting from the council or a housing association and 32.9% owning. Landlords and agents can have the invoice made out to the agency, photos for the checkout file on request, and keys for an empty flat collected by arrangement.

Parking zones H, T and X
Three of Hammersmith and Fulham's parking zones meet here. Aspenlea Road and Claybrook Road, off Fulham Palace Road, are in zone H, which the zone table still lists as controlled 9am to 5pm on weekdays. The council has decided to extend zone H to 8.30am to 10pm every day, with a two-hour maximum stay, and told residents in September 2026 to expect it in late October or early November (see its zone consultations page). The riverside blocks off Parr's Way, the terraces of Parfrey Street and Crabtree Lane are in zone T, and Niton Street and the streets south of Crabtree Lane are in zone X. Zone T is normally controlled Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and zone X Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm; both change on Craven Cottage event days, when T runs to 10pm and X to 9.30pm every day of the week, with a two-hour pay-and-display limit in T and one hour in X. Parking is free outside a zone's controlled hours. If your visit falls on a match day or another event day, say so when you book, and check the signs in your street.

Is a match day a problem?
Only for parking in zones T and X. The council counts any event at Craven Cottage as an event day, matches included. Pick a non-event day if you can; weekend visits cost the weekday price.
How long will it take?
About 90 minutes for a single and about 2 hours for a double. At the end the oven is put back together and heated, and you look inside before we pack up.
