Fulham Broadway station opened on 1 March 1880 as Walham Green and took its present name in 1952. The listing for Harry W Ford's faience entrance building, which faces Fulham Road, describes a sunken panel from which the old name was erased in the 1950s.
Walham Grove, a street off the Broadway
The Broadway itself is shops, the station and the Portland stone town hall, built in 1888 to 1890 to George Edwards's design for the Fulham vestry. A short walk north, Walham Grove is the street that kept the village name. It was allotments and market gardens owned by the Harwood family until building began about 1862, and the deeds of No. 40, dated 1868, name Frederick Augustus Penney as developer and Charles Henry Wootten as builder. The north side is a row of linked semi-detached houses of gault brick, two storeys over a semi-basement with a separate door down to the lower floor; the council made the street a conservation area in 1975. Closer to the station, the Samuel Lewis Trust estate stands on Vanston Place.
Where the lower floor of a house like this is a separate flat, its oven can be down a flight of steps from the pavement. That changes the carrying, never the routine. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand, over dust sheets. The door is split where its design allows.

The council ward around the station is still called Walham Green. At the 2021 Census it had 3,594 households, and the split was close to even: 36.4% rented from the council or a housing association, 35.9% rented privately and 26.2% owned their home. Parking in zone F
The station, Vanston Place and Walham Grove all fall in the council's parking zone F, which the zone times table lists as controlled Monday to Sunday, 8.30am to 10pm. South of Fulham Road the town hall side of Harwood Road is in zone S, with different limits.
