In 1881 the United Counties Land, Building and Investment Society bought an estate near the old Freezy Water farm, west of Hertford Road, and laid out Holly, Oakhurst and Holmwood roads. Several houses were up by 1897, but plots stayed empty until the 1930s.

Freezywater is the stretch of Hertford Road from the Ordnance Road junction north to Bullsmoor Lane and the M25's Holmesdale Tunnel. The name is usually traced to a farm pond that froze easily, and it is on record as Freezywater by 1768. No. 651 Hertford Road, an early 19th-century villa of stock brick with a low hipped slate roof, has been listed at Grade II since 1974. St George's church, red brick and Gothic, went up between 1900 and 1906 to designs by J. E. K. and J. P. Cutts; its south-west tower was started and never finished.
In the census area the House of Commons Library calls Bullsmoor and Freezywater (MSOA Enfield 001), 39.1% of the 2,627 households in 2021 lived in a semi-detached house, 27.4% in a terrace and 21.0% in a purpose-built flat. 54.3% owned their home, and more than half of those owned it outright (27.7% of all households).
Semis of that age are often extended at the back or knocked through, and a larger kitchen often has room for a built-in double or a 90cm range. Either way the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, with dust sheets down, and the door is split where its design allows.

Enfield Council's map of controlled parking zones, in the copy archived in December 2022, shows no zone in Freezywater. Zones change, so the signs on your own road are the ones to trust. If you have a drive or a space off the street, say so when you book, because the team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit.
