Forty Hall, at the top of the hill, was built in 1629-32 for Nicholas Raynton, a London haberdasher who had bought the manor's lands in 1616; Enfield Urban District Council bought it in 1951 and opened it to the public in 1962.
Georgian houses up the hill from Forty Green
The road called Forty Hill runs north of Enfield Town, from its junction with Clay Hill and Myddelton Avenue to Maiden's Bridge, and the whole stretch has been a conservation area since 1968. At the bottom, the road widens into Forty Green, the most built-up part, with terraces, close-set semis, blocks of flats and the only shops. The Goat, a Tudor-style pub of 1932 by A. E. Sewell, has been converted to flats, and Bridgen Hall, a mid 18th-century house, is now four homes at 27-33 Russell Road.
By the green stands the Hermitage (late 17th century, listed Grade II*). Further up, the Georgian houses begin: Worcester Lodge, Elsynge Cottage and Forty Hill House of about 1800, with plainer 19th-century stock-brick houses between them. North of the Clock House the road turns into a sunken lane, past Jesus Church of 1835 and Forty Hill School.
Terraces and flats round Forty Green
At the 2021 Census the two output areas covering Forty Green, Goat Lane and St Georges Road held 268 households. 123 of them lived in a terraced house, 44 in a purpose-built flat and 28 in part of a converted or shared house; about seven in ten owned their home.

Parking on Forty Hill after the 2025 zone plan
In 2025 Enfield Council consulted on charging for the Forty Hall car park and on a residents' permit zone for the streets around it, to run 9am to 6.30pm every day. After the statutory consultation it decided not to go ahead with either: the car park stays free and the zone proposal is on hold (council consultation page). The council's zone map as archived in December 2022 shows no controlled zone at Forty Hill either. Even so, check the signs on your street, and tell us the road when you book: the team needs somewhere to park.

Only for time. Mention the floor and whether there is a lift when you ring.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, then it is heated and you check it with us. A double oven clean is priced on its own line.
Can you clean the oven on a Sunday?
Yes. We work seven days, and Sunday costs the same as a weekday. The lines are open 8am to 6pm at weekends.
Can you do the microwave on the same visit?
Yes, for £22, added to the oven price agreed on the phone.
