Forest Gate South kept its name and its three councillors when the Boundary Commission redrew Newham's wards for 2022. The new edge with Maryland runs just north of the University of East London, which put Cedars, Louise and Keogh roads in Maryland. After submissions that included a petition of 182 residents of Chaucer, Gower, Sylvan and Wyatt roads, the Commission moved the southern line back to its existing course, behind the north side of Dunbar Road.
Tall houses west of Woodgrange Road
Newham's appraisal of the Forest Gate Town Centre conservation area picks out Earlham Grove, with Hamfrith, Atherton, Norwich, Sprowston and Clova roads, as wide tree-lined streets of tall, substantial houses built for the wealthy middle classes; they appear between the 1865 and 1919 Ordnance Survey maps. The ward has many converted houses. At the 2021 Census, 17.3% of its households lived in part of a converted or shared house, 38.4% in a purpose-built block and 24.2% in a terraced house. A flat carved out of a Victorian house tends to have a narrow kitchen with a built-in single oven or a slim freestanding cooker, and a staircase between that kitchen and the street.

Forest Gate South is split between several of Newham's resident parking zones, with different hours. On the council's zone map, Norwich and Sprowston roads and the eastern end of Earlham Grove are in the Forest Gate zone, controlled 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Clova Road is in that zone too, but the council's pay-by-phone list gives its bay by Sprowston Road as 8am to 6.30pm, so read the sign there. Hamfrith and Atherton roads and the western end of Earlham Grove are in Stratford North East, 8am to 6.30pm on weekdays only. Chaucer Road is in Green Street North, 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
