In 1911 the Victoria County History called Fetcham "a purely agricultural parish", with the village a mile from Leatherhead and the Mole along part of its eastern boundary.
Fetcham's estates, road by road
Several of the village's estates went up in two bursts, either side of the Second World War, and the Leatherhead and District Local History Society's 2001 roads listing dates many of them road by road. Orchard Parade's shops were built in 1934-35. The builder Walter Stokes started the Cannon Court Estate, around Nutcroft Grove and Cannon Grove, in about 1935. In the early 1930s a station was proposed by the Cobham Road railway bridge; it was never built, and the land went to housing at Monks Green, Hilley Field Lane and Meadow Lane. An advert for the Monks Green estate around 1935 promised that the station "would be opened shortly".
The second burst followed the war. The Cock Lane estate was still being built in 1954 and was complete by 1956. Off Kennel Lane, Hazel Way was part of a "Proposed Development at Kennel Lane Stage 3"; A. J. Wait and Co proposed the name Hazel Crescent for it, and Hazel Way was probably adopted in January 1957.

Houses of the 1950s usually have small kitchens. Where one has been extended or knocked through, the new kitchen usually brings a new built-in oven, and on many current models that means a pyrolytic setting.
- Pyrolytic cycle
- A setting on some built-in ovens that locks the door and heats the empty cavity until spills burn to ash, which is then wiped out. The shelves and side runners generally have to come out first.
- Hand clean
- Shelves, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen.
The pyrolytic self-cleaning guide compares the two in more detail.
Fetcham in the 2021 Census
The census output area that holds Hazel Way and Sherwood Close had 116 households in 2021. Of those, 67.2% lived in a detached house and 27.6% in a semi, and 91.4% owned their home. Across the Fetcham East and Fetcham West wards together, 7.1% of the 3,177 households rented privately, half the Mole Valley figure of 14.1%.
With so few lets, a checkout inspection is less likely to prompt an oven clean than in a renting area. In a village of owners the reasons are more likely to be the owner's own: smoke when the oven heats up (see why an oven smokes), family coming to stay, or a house going on the market.

Parking for the van in Fetcham
Mole Valley District Council's list of pay car parks covers Ashtead, Bookham, Dorking and Leatherhead, with none in Fetcham, so the van stops on a drive or in the road. On-street lines are Surrey County Council's for now. Its 2026 parking review for Mole Valley proposes double yellow lines outside 95 to 101 The Street, to keep the approach to the Cobham Road roundabout clear, and at the junction of Cannon Grove and Nutcroft Grove. A longer school keep-clear marking on The Street and lines between two drives in School Lane are also proposed.
From April 2027 Mole Valley becomes part of the new East Surrey Council, which the district council says will take over highways. Lines can change, so check the plate on the post nearest the house. The nearer the team can park, the better. The Leatherhead page covers the town across the river.
Fetcham oven cleaning questions
Is there a Mole Valley pay car park in Fetcham the van can use?
No. Mole Valley's list of pay car parks covers Ashtead, Bookham, Dorking and Leatherhead. A drive, or a legal space in the road outside, is what the van needs.
My oven has a pyrolytic setting. Is a hand clean still useful?
Yes, for the shelves and runners, which usually have to come out before the cycle runs, and for whatever the cycle leaves behind in the cavity and on the glass.
Can the hob and extractor be done on the same visit?
Yes. A single oven with the hob and the extractor hood together is £117, and a double oven with both is £143.
How long does a double oven take?
About 2 hours on site. A single takes about 90 minutes.

What customers tell us
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
