The station end of Falconwood
Falconwood station opened on 1 January 1936, more than 40 years after the rest of the Bexleyheath line, to serve a growing area; Russ Willey's gazetteer says New Ideal Homesteads contributed substantially to its cost. West of the station, in Royal Greenwich, is Shepherdleas Wood, part of the 72.7-hectare Oxleas Woodlands Site of Special Scientific Interest, notified in 1984 as one of the most extensive areas of long-established woodland on the London Clay in Greater London. Falconwood Field, just north of the station in Royal Greenwich, was acquired as public open space in 1936, and Eltham Cemetery, also Greenwich, south of Lingfield Crescent, opened in 1935.
The census area round the station (Bexley 018E, which lies inside Falconwood and Welling ward) had 642 households at the 2021 Census. Of those, 45.6% lived in a semi, 38.6% in a terraced house and 9.3% in a purpose-built flat; 84.3% owned their home and 14.5% rented privately. Terraces and semis of the 1930s tend to have a small kitchen at the back, and a purpose-built flat a compact one, often with stairs between it and the street.

Parking: two councils, two sets of zones
On the Bexley side, the council's road list shows Lingfield Crescent, Braywood Road and Millbrook Avenue as "All" in its Falconwood Station zone, with the north-east side of East Rochester Way, Nos. 956 to 978; the council shows the hours on each zone's entry signs. On the Greenwich side, Royal Greenwich runs a separate zone, also called Falconwood (code FW), controlled Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 10am according to its zone page, which does not list the streets it covers. Both were checked on 4 October 2026. Whichever side you are on, read the signs in your street, and tell us the road when you call so we can plan somewhere to park.
