Fairlop station opened on 1 May 1903 on the Great Eastern's loop line from Ilford, on the north side of Forest Road. Its canopies still carry the GER emblem in the brackets, and Redbridge's 2014 characterisation study lists the station as locally listed. North of Forest Road is Fairlop Plain. In June 1936 Ilford Borough Council stepped aside so that the Corporation of London could develop a London airport there; the Air Ministry requisitioned much of the site in 1940, and RAF Fairlop became operational in September 1941. It closed in 1946. In 1955 Ilford Borough Council learnt that it was to acquire 920 acres of the plain, and within months sand and ballast were being dug; the flooded pits are now the lakes of Fairlop Waters Country Park, on Forest Road.
Houses round Fairlop station
Between the wars Ilford's suburbs spread north as far as Barkingside, and Fairlop council school opened on Fencepiece Road in 1929. The 2021 Census gives the mix. Of the 5,254 households in Fairlop ward, 34.6% lived in a terraced house, 31.3% in a semi and 9.0% in a detached house; 20.4% lived in a purpose-built block of flats. Six in ten (61.0%) owned their home, and 27.9% owned it outright.

A house built between the wars has usually had a new kitchen or two since, and in a family house that often means a built-in double at eye level or a wide range cooker. Both take longer than a single: more glass, more racking, a second cavity.
A double oven or a range in a Fairlop semi
- Built-in double
- Two cavities stacked one above the other, the top one smaller and usually with the grill. About 2 hours on site, £110.
- 90cm range cooker
- Two or three cavities side by side under a wide hob, freestanding. Allow 2 to 3 hours, £143.
The method is the same for both. Shelves, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Indoors, the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand, and the door is split where its design allows; dust sheets go down before anything comes apart. There is more on a double oven clean on its own page.

Parking the van on Fairlop's streets
On Redbridge's permit parking map, Forest Road and the streets round Fairlop station are outside every controlled zone, and so is almost all of Fairlop ward. The two small exceptions are the zone round Starch House Lane and Hainault D, a permit-only zone round Marine Crescent near Hainault station. The map itself warns that times change and asks drivers to check the signs and lines on the street. Give us the road name when you book; the van needs a space.
Letting a Fairlop house under Scheme 4
In 2021, 27.2% of Fairlop ward households rented privately and 10.5% rented from the council or a housing association. Fairlop is one of the 15 wards in Redbridge's Selective Licensing Scheme 4, in force from 8 April 2024 to 7 April 2029: a private let to one person, two people or a single household needs a licence, and the fee is £997.69 a property for applications made in 2026-27.
The oven is usually one of the items on a checkout inventory. Agents can have the invoice made out to the agency and photos for the checkout file, and keys for an empty house can be collected by arrangement. The end of tenancy oven cleaning guide covers deposits.
Fairlop oven cleaning questions
Is my road in Fairlop in a permit zone?
Probably not. On the council's map only Starch House Lane and the Marine Crescent zone fall inside the ward. If you live in either, say so when you book.
Can you clean the hob on the range at the same visit?
Yes. The hob or hood of a range cooker is £48, added to the range price of £143.
Does everything happen in my kitchen?
The cavity, door glass and seals are cleaned by hand in the kitchen, with dust sheets down first. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately.

Reviews from our rounds
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
I would certainly recommend this service, very efficient and good value for money. The young man did a great job and even cleaned the kitchen floor. Thank you.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
