Fairfield Halls, opened in 1962, stand on Croydon's old Fair Field, where a well-known fair was held until around 1860. The Halls closed for rebuilding in July 2016 and reopened on 16 September 2019.
Victorian and Edwardian villas across Park Lane
Across Park Lane from the Halls is a grid of streets that Croydon made the Chatsworth Road Conservation Area on 10 October 2008. Its appraisal dates the layout closely. Woodstock, Mulgrave and Eden Roads had been laid out by 1868. Barclay Road and Friends Road followed by 1890, along with the north end of Chatsworth Road, first called Penn Road, and by 1910 most of the historic buildings now standing had been built.
