The Regent's Park Estate is the housing story here: nearly 2,000 homes in 49 buildings, mostly 1950s council blocks, sitting either side of Robert Street between Albany Street and Hampstead Road. HS2 took a bite out of it. Silverdale, Eskdale and Ainsdale went for the works, and in 2023 Camden agreed to hand over Cartmel, Coniston and Langdale as well, so the north end of the estate has been a construction site rather than a neighbourhood for years now.
Two kinds of kitchen sit a few streets apart
Estate flats of that age usually have a freestanding 60cm cooker slotted between units, sometimes gas, with a grill compartment above the main cavity and a lot of baked-on spill down the sides where nobody can reach. Walk south towards Gower Street and it changes. UCL halls and the lets around Endsleigh Gardens, where the hall itself is only 11 single rooms, 16 studios and 2 one-bedroom flats, run to compact integrated ovens that get used hard for one academic year and then get inspected. Both jobs are £77 for a single. A hob clean is £23–28 on top and worth it on the freestanding cookers, since that is where the burnt-on ring of it lives.
Euston Road is a red route
No stopping on the red lines, not for loading, not for two minutes. The van goes into the side streets instead, and Camden's CA-E zone covering the ground up to Euston Road runs 8:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Saturday with roughly 305 resident permits against 375 spaces, which tells you how tight the bays get by mid-morning. Does the cleaning happen in my flat?
Partly. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners go to the heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so the flat is not left smelling of chemicals.
My cooker is old. Is it worth cleaning?
Usually. The oven gets heat-tested before we sign off, so you find out either way.
How long will you be in the kitchen?
About ninety minutes for a single, two hours for a double at £110.
