Esher's estates, from Esher Place to Lower Green
Esher Place, to the north, is a 1930s extension of large houses on straight, tree-lined roads; Wayneflete's Tower at its north-west corner was the gatehouse of the old Esher Place and is listed Grade I. On Clare Hill, beside Claremont, most of the first houses were designed by one architect, Blair Imrie, which is why the roads still hang together. Lower Green is different again. Cut off from the town by Sandown Park and the railway, it is mainly two-storey interwar and post-war housing, some of it terraced, with cottage-scale houses facing Lower Green Road.

Parking near Esher High Street
The A307 forms Esher's High Street, and the council's guide notes heavy through traffic on it (as Portsmouth Road) and on Claremont Lane. Restrictions on the roads are Surrey County Council's. Off the street, Elmbridge runs the Civic Centre car park on the High Street (157 spaces), Berguette on Claremont Lane and Heather Place off Park Road. Charges apply 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, and the first 30 minutes are free with a ticket.
Those car parks suit a flat in the centre. For a house the drive is better. Many of Esher's private estates are protected by covenants, and some newer developments are gated, so give us the gate code or the way in when you book.
