Woolwich Borough Council built the Page Estate at Eltham Green and Eltham Hill in the early 1920s. The same council later bought nearby Well Hall from the Page family, and owned it by 1930.
Semi-detached houses are the biggest group in Eltham West
The House of Commons Library calls the census area here, Greenwich 025, Eltham West, and in 2021 it had 3,087 households: 48.3% lived in a semi-detached house, 32.9% in a terrace and only 13.1% in a purpose-built flat. In the smaller area round Froissart Road (Greenwich 025A) the semi share was 68.7%. Tenure is split: 45.1% of households owned, and 39.9% rented from a social landlord, 32.5% of all households from the council itself.
Council houses of the 1920s generally had a small kitchen at the back. Some will have been extended or knocked through, and a larger kitchen may have room for a built-in double or a 90cm range. Whichever it is, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors. The door is split where its design allows.
Well Hall Pleasaunce on the eastern edge
The old Eltham West ward reached east to Well Hall Pleasaunce, now in Eltham Page ward. Woolwich council opened the first part of the park on 25 May 1933. It has the moat and the 16th-century Tudor Barn, which William Roper, Thomas More's son-in-law, almost certainly built. Edith Nesbit and Hubert Bland rented the later Well Hall house from 1899 until the early 1920s. The old ward also took in the western edge of the 1915 Progress Estate, round Sandby Green, Dickson Road and Whinyates Road; the estate as a whole is on the Eltham North page.

Parking by the Eltham Station zone
On Royal Greenwich's CPZ map, Froissart Road, Milne Gardens and Bloxam Gardens mostly sit just outside the Eltham Station zone (E), where permits apply Monday to Friday from 11am to 12.30pm; Sherard Road, closer to the station, is mostly inside it. The council says the map is a guide only, so the signs on your street decide.

Is Eltham West still a ward?
No. It was abolished at the May 2022 elections. The streets round Froissart Road are now in Eltham Page ward, as is the Pleasaunce; the western edge of the Progress Estate is in Eltham Park and Progress, and the north-west corner by Kidbrooke station went to Kidbrooke Village and Sutcliffe.
My cooker is in a back extension. Does that change the job?
Not the method. Dust sheets still go down before anything is taken apart.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, against about 90 minutes for a single.
Can I book a Saturday or Sunday?
Yes. We work seven days a week, and a weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one.
