St John the Baptist's church stands on the north side of Eltham High Street, rebuilt to Arthur Blomfield's design between 1873 and 1875, with the tower and spire finished in 1879. Until late in that century Eltham was a small village in farmland, its houses grouped round the church, along the High Street either side of it and at the start of Court Yard.

The High Street is in Eltham Town and Avery Hill ward, which had 6,294 households at the 2021 Census. More of them lived in a purpose-built block of flats (36.6%) than in a semi (29.5%) or a terrace (20.9%). Another 128 households, 2.0%, were counted in a commercial building, the census heading that covers flats over shops. 59.1% owned their home, 21.0% rented from a social landlord and 18.2% rented privately.

Eltham's permit zones and their hours
Royal Greenwich runs several controlled parking zones round the town centre, and their hours are far apart:
- Eltham Centre (EC), the town-centre zone: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm
- Eltham North (EN): Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm
- Eltham Station (E) and Eltham Outer (EO), which includes Glenure Road: Monday to Friday, 11am to 12.30pm
The council's map does not show housing-estate parking areas at all. The council's zone list has the permit details. The council calls its zone map only a guide, so the signs on your street decide. Give us the road name when you ring; the team needs somewhere to park.

In the Eltham Centre and Eltham North zones it is, on Saturdays as well as weekdays. The Station and Outer zones are controlled on weekdays only. A weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one.

About 90 minutes for a single, about two hours for a double and two to three hours for a 90cm range. The oven is back together and heated before we leave.
Where does the cleaning happen in a small flat?
The cavity, door glass and seals are cleaned by hand, normally in your kitchen. The removable parts come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen. The price is the same either way, and you can ask when you book.
