Eden Park station opened on 29 May 1882 as the first stop on the new branch from Elmers End to Hayes, and it still has most of its original weatherboarded buildings.
The 1930s estates round the station
The name is older than the houses. William Eden, later the first Lord Auckland, leased land here from Peter Burrell in about 1782, and the mansion that came to be called Eden Park stood on the flat ground at the top of what is now Crease Park. The line was electrified in 1925 and 1926, and the season tickets sold at the station rose from 61 in 1925 to 4,188 nine years later.
In 1932 the builders Clout and Tysoe laid out Groveland Road and Broomfield Road on Eden farm fields and named Derrick Road, Gordon Road, Ronald Close and Ernest Grove after their sons. Lodge Gardens, Holly Crescent and Eden Way followed in 1933, when the north lodge was taken down. South of the station, the Bethlem Royal Hospital moved in 1930 to the Monks Orchard House site, between Eden Park, West Wickham and Shirley.
The census area named Eden Park & Bethlem by the House of Commons Library (MSOA Bromley 024) is a place of houses. Of its 3,116 households in 2021, 51.6% lived in a terraced house and 27.1% in a semi; only 11.2% were in a purpose-built block. 79.9% owned their home, 36.3% outright.
A 1930s house often started with a small kitchen at the back. Where that kitchen has since been extended, a built-in double or a 90cm range is a likely cooker; where it has not, a single or a freestanding cooker. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets.

Parking the van in Eden Park
Bromley's residential permit table lists no zone for Eden Park. The council marks any zone's hours on signs where it starts and ends, so the sign on your road settles it. If the house has a drive the van can use, say so when you book. Some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen, at the same price.
