In its board report of 13 May 2026 the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation counted 5,319 new homes in its area, 475 of them finished in 2025/26, with 381 more under construction across seven sites.
Castle Hill, Alkerden and Ashmere on the old Eastern Quarry
Whitecliffe, the former Eastern Quarry, is described by its developer as the largest development site in the garden city: 667 acres with planning permission for 6,250 homes in three villages. In the corporation's May 2026 count Castle Hill was complete at 1,606 homes. Alkerden had 475 and Ashmere 493, about a quarter and an eighth of what each is expected to hold. Castle Hill and Alkerden are in Dartford's Ebbsfleet ward, which has no parish council. Springhead Park, with 799 homes, is over the line in Gravesham, nearer Northfleet.
Hardly anyone here owns a home outright yet. At the 2021 Census only 4.8% of the ward's 1,864 households did, against 54.8% with a mortgage, 12.0% in shared ownership and 20.3% renting privately.
Houses this new come with the kitchen already fitted, so the oven is usually an integrated single or double set in the units, and some may be pyrolytic. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen. The door is split where its design allows.

Parking for the van on new Ebbsfleet streets
The corporation's design guidance for new schemes aims to limit on-plot parking for houses to a single bay, with a second space possible in a tandem layout, and suggests grouping unallocated spaces within the neighbourhood. That is guidance for developers, not a survey of what was built, but on a newer street it can mean little room for a visitor's van. When you book, say whether there is a drive, a free bay or a visitor space close to the door.

My oven has a pyrolytic cycle. What does a hand clean add?
The racks, trays and side runners, which the cycle does not touch, and the glass between the door panes, reached by splitting the door where its design allows.
Our street in Alkerden is so new the satnav does not know it. Is that a problem?
No. Give us the postcode and a landmark nearby when you call, and say where the van can stop.
Can the hob be cleaned at the same time?
Yes. A ceramic hob is £23 and a gas hob £28, added to the oven price.
How long does an integrated double take?
About 2 hours. A single is about 90 minutes.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
