Sheen Lane follows a medieval route south towards Kingston. Between Upper Richmond Road and Sheen Common, Berwyn Road, Orchard Rise and Sheen Common Drive form an estate of detached two-storey houses built from 1925 to 1932, with planted verges still lining Berwyn Road and Sheen Common Drive.
Most of these houses are lived in by their owners. In East Sheen ward, 70.9% of the 4,125 households owned their home at the 2021 Census, against 23.2% renting privately and 5.7% in social housing. Houses of these years were built for families, and a refitted or extended kitchen can hold a built-in double, a 90cm range or a newer self-cleaning oven even in a 1920s semi.

Parking in zones ES and ES1
Richmond's zone list gives both East Sheen (ES) and Parkside (ES1) as Monday to Friday, 10am to noon, free on bank holidays. On the east side, the council's notice gave 27 November 2023 as the start of an extension of zone B2 (White Hart Lane South) to Avenue Gardens and Upper Richmond Road West, also 10am to noon on weekdays. A visit after noon on a weekday, or at the weekend, avoids the controlled period; otherwise the van needs a visitor permit or a paid bay, and the plate at the end of the road is the final word.
