Kent Town, the grid of straight, wide, tree-lined roads that leads down to Walton Road, is there because Francis Jackson Kent and his son bought a large area of land between 1847 and 1850, laid out the roads and started building.

Elmbridge's statement for the Kent Town conservation area, first designated by Surrey County Council on 18 December 1973, names the roads the Kents built up: Palace Road, Wolsey Road, Arnison Road and Church Road. The designation statement adds that the larger houses are often converted into flats.
In the small Census area that takes in Bridge Road, Manor Road and the east end of Walton Road (Elmbridge 002A), 38.2% of households lived in a purpose-built flat in 2021 and 12.0% in a flat inside a converted or shared house. 31.3% rented privately, against 17.5% across Elmbridge.

Parking in the EM permit area
