How we clean it
The racks, trays, shelves and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van. The cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is no chemical smell left in the kitchen after. The door is split where the design allows, to reach the film between the panes, and the oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave. A double runs to about two hours.
Parking and the Saturday market
Parking is a real part of the visit. North Cross Road runs a busy market every Saturday, which fills the streets nearby, and the whole of SE22 is now inside the London-wide ULEZ, so on a terraced road off Lordship Lane the van may sit a short walk from the door. That does not change the clean. The parts travel to the tank and back either way, whether we park near Goose Green or up towards East Dulwich station.
Move-outs and letting agents
Alongside the settled family owners there is a steady rental trade, and letting agents cluster on Lordship Lane, Winkworth by The Palmerston among them. When a tenant moves out the oven has to match the inventory before the deposit is returned, and a greasy one is a common sticking point.
