By the second world war about 85 per cent of the Rotherhithe peninsula, some 460 acres, was dock water and timber ponds, taking softwood from Scandinavia and the Baltic and foodstuffs off the Canada boats. They ran from 1696 until 1969, and Nelson Dock was about all that survived the first blitz.

Worth saying plainly, because the word covers both banks: SE16 is the south side, Rotherhithe and Surrey Quays, not Canary Wharf across the water. It is the southern half of the peninsula, Canada Water down to South Dock.
Three ages of flat on one peninsula
The housing came in waves. Riverside warehouse conversions and new build went up as upmarket housing in the 1980s, then a programme through the late 1980s and early 1990s added around 5,500 homes, from detached houses to blocks the size of Baltic Quay, and those kitchens are now thirty-odd years old with a freestanding cooker or one oven under the worktop. The third wave is still arriving. The Canada Water Masterplan, run by Southwark with British Land, covers 53 acres over about fifteen years and should deliver roughly 3,000 net zero carbon homes, 35 per cent affordable. Flats of that generation land with an integrated oven and an induction hob, so a hob clean at £23–28 gets added to many of those bookings.
Two zones govern the kerb
Southwark controls Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks as Zone S, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm, with Rotherhithe Village sitting inside its own zone, RV. Neither affects the quote. Canada Water station puts the Jubilee line and the Overground in one building, which is why so much of the peninsula lets. No call-out fee applies inside the North and South Circular.

Is the oven clean enough for a check-out inventory?
That is most of what we do in SE16. Racks, shelves, trays and runners soak in the tank, and the glass is split where the design allows.
Do you need to fill anything from my taps?
No. The tank and the water are both in the van.
Will there be a smell in the flat afterwards?
There should not be. The cavity, fan cover and glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products.
