Devons Road DLR opened in 1991 on an old freight line, and the streets around it grew out of the same railway land. The north end of Devons Road, by Bow Road, was pedestrianised and renamed Stroudley Walk after the locomotive engineer William Stroudley. Most of the housing here is the Devons estate, transferred to Poplar HARCA in 2006, plus the newer Peabody blocks along Barry Blandford Way. Those flats nearly all run a single integrated oven, so the £77 single is the job we do most on this patch of E3.
What the visit involves
We lift the racks, shelves, trays and side runners out and soak them in a heated tank in the van, then degrease the cavity, fan cover and door glass by hand indoors with non-caustic products, which is why a small Bow flat is not left smelling of oven cleaner when we go. Where the door design allows we split it and clean the inner glass. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave. A single is about ninety minutes.
Estate flats and move-outs
The Peabody homes on Barry Blandford Way and the older Poplar HARCA blocks turn over steadily, and the private lets near the DLR do too, so we get a regular run of end-of-tenancy oven cleans where the oven has to pass a check-out inventory. For the built-in single these flats carry, our single oven clean is the usual booking, and the dip tank takes the burnt-on layer off the racks and glass so it reads as clean.
Parking near the DLR
Devons Road sits in a Tower Hamlets controlled parking zone, and the hours run differently street to street, so tell us the road and we check the bay first. Stroudley Walk is pedestrianised, so for flats off it we park on the nearest vehicle street and carry the racks and trays to the van. It is all inside the North and South Circular, ULEZ vans, no call-out fee.
