Two councils share Denmark Hill. King's College Hospital, on the west side of the road at SE5 9RS, is in Lambeth; the Maudsley Hospital opposite, at SE5 8AZ, is in Southwark. The hospital moved here from north of the Thames: an Act of Parliament in 1904 allowed the move, the foundation stone was laid in 1909 and the new buildings opened in 1913.
Post-war council estates on Champion Hill
After the Second World War, Camberwell Borough Council took land on Denmark Hill once some of its grander mansions were no longer viable. Cleve Hall, at the west end of Champion Hill, was one of them, and the Cleve Hall Estate was developed there between 1952 and 1956 with 171 homes. Also on Champion Hill, the London County Council's Ruskin Park House, approved in 1949, is one six-storey block of 120 dwellings.
Champion Hill ward, which takes in Denmark Hill station, Champion Hill and Dog Kennel Hill, had 3,842 households at the 2021 Census: 66.0% lived in a purpose-built block of flats, and a third (33.3%) rented from the council. Another 38.8% owned their home.
A flat in a 1950s block usually has a compact kitchen, with the oven built in or freestanding. The clean is the same as anywhere: racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, the cavity, fan cover and door glass degreased by hand indoors, and the door split where its design allows. Parking zones on the Southwark side
Southwark's zone list gives zone L (South Camberwell) as 8.30am to 6.30pm, zone P (North Dulwich and Denmark Hill) as noon to 2pm and zone Q (Dog Kennel Hill) as 11am to 1pm, all Monday to Friday. The council's own traffic notices put Champion Park, by Denmark Hill station, in zone L. For other streets, check the sign on the bay, because the zone can change from one street to the next. On the hospital side the rules are Lambeth's, so check the signs there too.

I live off Denmark Hill on the Lambeth side. Is the price different?
The price is set by the oven and agreed on the phone. Streets west of the hospital towards Loughborough Junction are booked the same way, and the parking rules there are Lambeth's.
My flat is in zone Q. Does that matter for the van?
Zone Q is only controlled from 11am to 1pm on weekdays, according to the council's list, and not at weekends, when the visit costs the weekday price. Check the sign on your street.
What happens before the team leaves?
The oven is put back together and heated, and you check it with us. Any corner that is not right is put right before we go.
