RM9 is turning from factory land into flats. The 45-acre Ford stamping works on Chequers Lane pressed roughly eleven million cars, and in 1968 its sewing machinists walked out for equal pay, the strike that became the film Made in Dagenham. Getting the van in
Dagenham Dock is more warehouse than street, so around the London Sustainable Industries Park, the 25-hectare site off Choats Road that replaced the old coal power station, parking is easy but the units are a long carry from the road. On the new Dagenham Green plots the parking is being set out as the phases finish, so tell us the block and floor and whether the lift is running.
