Freemasons Road appears as Green Lane on the 18th-century maps of Rocque and James. The district it runs through takes its name from the custom house of the Royal Victoria Dock, which opened in 1855, and there was much building here in the 1880s.
New homes on the old William Patton site
Newham Council is rebuilding the middle of Custom House in phases around Freemasons Road. A residents' ballot that closed in December 2022 came out in favour of the plans. The first 95 homes, on the former William Patton site at Leslie Road and Freemasons Road, are finished, in three blocks that include Lucy House and Dellamura House. The council's outline plan for the wider scheme covers 629 homes with a health hub, a nursery and a new bus stand. Its regeneration hub, Custom Made, is at 25 Freemasons Road.

Custom House ward had 6,206 households at the 2021 Census. 42.8% rented from a social landlord (25.9% from the council and 16.9% from a housing association), 26.7% rented privately and 26.8% owned; 3.3% had shared ownership. 44.2% lived in a purpose-built block of flats, 29.3% in a terraced house and 15.2% in a semi. The share of flats is higher beside the station: 70.4% in the census area that takes in Leslie Road and Victoria Dock Road.

Permit bays round Freemasons Road
Freemasons Road, Leslie Road and the stretch of Victoria Dock Road by the station all fall in the zone Newham calls Custom House. The council lists its controlled hours as Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm. A Sunday visit falls outside those hours and is charged at the weekday rate. Is Custom House for ExCeL a different area?
No. It is the DLR's name for Custom House station; the streets west of the station towards Royal Victoria are on the Custom House for ExCeL page.
Can you clean the hob too?
Yes. A ceramic hob is £23 and a gas hob £28, added to the oven price.
Said after the sign-off
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
