Between the wars Islington's old borough council put a run of blocks along the top of the borough: Warltersville Mansions in 1926, Leyden Mansions in 1931, the Highlands on the east side of Crouch Hill in 1934 and Coleman Mansions, on Crouch Hill itself, in 1937.

The Victoria County History says the borough council built several estates especially in the northern tip of the parish, where there were still houses with large gardens and other vacant land. The Victorian pattern there was already breaking up: the Hollies, east of Crouch Hill, was sold off in 20 plots as Holly Park from 1864, and Mount Pleasant House was replaced by terraces that a Great Northern branch line cut off from the rest of Crouch Hill, so that they belonged more to Crouch End. The Parkland Walk, a path along an old railway line, passes under Crouch Hill road today.
A flat in a block of the 1920s or 1930s can have a small kitchen and a shared stair. If yours has no lift, say which floor when you call. Either side of Crouch Hill station
The station, opened in 1868 and now on the Overground's Gospel Oak to Barking route, sits on the Islington slope of the hill, and the 2021 Census splits the area at about that point. North of it, in the census area the House of Commons Library calls Highcroft & Holly Park, 51.7% of the 4,200 households rented from the council or a housing association and 63.8% lived in purpose-built flats. South of it, in the area named Tollington, which takes in Sparsholt Road and part of Hanley Road, 38.4% lived in part of a converted or shared house and 37.5% rented privately.

Zone J below the station, zone HE above it
Islington's address lookup puts the lower end of Crouch Hill (N4 4AU), Mount Pleasant Mews, Sparsholt Road and Hanley Road in Finsbury Park zone J, controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays. From the station up, including 57 and 69 Crouch Hill, Coleman Mansions, Highlands Close and Holly Park, it is zone HE, controlled only from 10am to 2pm on weekdays. The council's zone table lists both. Zone J also has longer hours when Arsenal play at home or there is an event at the Emirates: until 8.30pm on weekdays, and noon to 4.30pm on Sundays and bank holidays. Check the sign on the bay on the day.

Is Crouch Hill in Islington or Haringey?
The road runs through both. Around the station both sides are Islington; Haringey starts just east of Holly Park, around Mount Pleasant Villas, and the Haringey side is covered by the Stroud Green page. Each council runs its own parking zones.
When is the easiest time to park above the station?
Zone HE is controlled only from 10am to 2pm on weekdays, so an afternoon or weekend visit is outside its hours. Weekends cost the same as weekdays.
Can you come on a Saturday below the station?
Yes. Zone J is controlled on Saturdays until 6.30pm, so the van needs a bay it may use near the door; give us the street when you book.
What happens to the racks and trays?
The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand in the kitchen, and the oven is put back together and heated while you check it.
