Crofton Roman Villa sits next to Orpington station and is the only Roman villa open to the public anywhere in Greater London. Workmen digging a driveway for new council offices found it in 1926. Crofton stayed farmland until the railway arrived: Orpington station opened in 1868, some development followed, and then the interwar years filled the fields in properly, which is why the place now reads as a suburban extension of Orpington rather than a village with a centre of its own. Crofton Lane and Darrick Wood Road are bay-fronted 1930s semis, three and four bedrooms, extended at the back more often than not. That is a freestanding-cooker and double-oven pattern rather than a galley-flat one. A double oven in a Crofton semi is £110 and takes about two hours.
Farnborough and Crofton, BR5 and BR6
Crofton is split across two postcode districts, BR5 and BR6, and shares a ward with Farnborough. It was in Kent until 1965. St Paul's Church on Crofton Road went up in 1887 and was rebuilt in 1958. Crofton Wood, northwest of the houses, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Getting the van to the door
BR6 is inside Greater London, so the ULEZ applies out here the same as it does in zone 1. That is our problem, not yours. Most of Crofton is off-street anyway: the 1930s semis came with driveways and side returns, so the van sits on the drive or at the kerb and the tank stays in it. Yes. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and go into the heated tank in the van. A 90cm range is £114.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours.
Do you use caustic products inside the house?
No. Indoors the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products. The soaking is done out in the van, which is why there is nothing to breathe in the kitchen and no smell afterwards.
Can you do the hob and the extractor at the same visit?
Yes, if you say so when you book. A hob is £23–28 depending on the type and an extractor hood is £28.

Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
