Crayford Hill holds the oldest thing here
An Iron Age settlement stood near where St Paulinus is now, occupied somewhere between the Julian and Claudian invasions, so roughly 30 BC to AD 40, and the Norman church on the same hill went up in 1100, where it still looks down over the town. Crayford Manor House stands just north-west of it, on about the spot the first manor house took in the fourteenth century, though the building there was commissioned around 1818 by the Revd Thomas Barne, Italian style, on the site of the old Newbery Manor House.
The river paid for the town
Tanning and silk-making both need constant free-flowing fresh water, and both settled here because of the Cray. Augustus Applegath set up the silk works. David Evans ran it later. A gun and ammunition factory followed and became the dominant employer. The canteen it put up during the First World War was taken over by Crayford Urban District Council as the Town Hall, now locally listed.
The Town Hall is flats now
Phase one of the redevelopment built 145 homes with a community hall and a new library. Phase two turned the listed Town Hall itself into a doctor's surgery on the ground floor and 44 apartments above it. Another 559 homes have planning permission on a brownfield site in the town. New flats come with integrated ovens and whatever extractor the developer fitted, and an extractor hood done with the oven adds £28.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
