Cowley Peachey sits on the Grand Union Canal at Cowley Peachey Junction, and the marina is what makes our work here a bit different. Packet Boat Waterside opened as a 120-berth marina in 2002, and the narrowboats moored there have compact galley cookers rather than a full built-in oven. On dry land it is the Uxbridge council estate of grey terraced houses off Packet Boat Lane, built in the mid-1950s, where the kitchens run single built-in ovens or a freestanding cooker.
Canal galleys and council terraces
A single built-in oven in one of the terraces is £77 and takes about ninety minutes. We lift the racks, shelves and side runners out and soak them in the heated tank in the van, then hand-clean the cavity, fan cover and door glass indoors with non-caustic products. No fumes, no chemical smell after, and the oven is heat-tested before we leave. If your kitchen has a double, that is £110 and around two hours.
Parking by the marina
Packet Boat Lane runs down to the water, and parking near the moorings can be tight when the marina is busy, so we pull in close and carry the racks to the van. The area is inside ULEZ and our van is compliant, so there is no surcharge for that, and no call-out fee applies out here.
