The district is named after a Lord Chancellor. Charles Pepys, 1st Earl of Cottenham, bought a 250-acre country retreat here in 1831, the year he became an MP, somewhere quiet enough for a man with fifteen children, and when he died in 1851 his widow and children had no wish to stay in the country and put the whole estate up for sale. No single buyer came forward. Developers took it in pieces, and the name Cottenham Park was attached to the ground in the same year.
Orchards held on until the trams
Building was slow. Only a handful of large houses went up at first, set back at least thirty feet from the road, and the land between Cottenham Park Road and Cambridge Road was still largely open in 1893. The orchards and piggeries of Cottenham Park Farm lasted into the twentieth century. Trams arrived in 1907 and the pace picked up, but most of what stands here went up between the wars.
Edwardian and inter-war kitchens

Cottenham Park is one of Merton's conservation areas, which governs what you may do to the outside of the house and nothing at all about the inside. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners soak in the heated tank in the van. Where exactly is Cottenham Park?
A small district of Merton, south of Copse Hill and north of Raynes Park, inside SW20. The recreation ground of the same name covers 3.2 hectares off Melbury Gardens.
How old is the recreation ground?
It opened in 1897 under the name Melbury Gardens and was the first amenity of its kind provided locally. It now holds a cricket ground and tarmac tennis courts.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
