Merton designated the Copse Hill conservation area in November 1990 after a borough-wide review, and it covers 19.65 hectares, about 48.56 acres, over one of the highest parts of the borough. Two of its buildings are listed. The district is low-rise and almost entirely privately built, the nearest social housing being in Wimbledon and Putney Vale, and Raynes Park is the station most people here walk to.
The hospital site is housing now
Atkinson Morley Hospital opened on Copse Hill in 1869, funded by a bequest from Atkinson Morley, a former medical student who had made his money in the hotel trade. It stayed a convalescent home until 1939, was turned over to surgery in the Second World War and grew into a neurosurgery centre, and it closed in 2003, after which Berkeley Homes bought the 25-acre site in 2010 and built Wimbledon Hill Park across it, keeping the listed 1869 building. Those homes are sold. Morley Park, the public half of the bargain, opened on 4 May 2019 and is leased to Merton Council.
Two sorts of kitchen on one hill
The split here is unusually clean for one road. New-build apartments of the Wimbledon Hill Park type normally have one integrated single oven at eye level, which is £77 and about ninety minutes. The detached stock inside the conservation area more often runs to a tall double at £110 or a 90cm range cooker at £114. Copse Hill itself is adopted and maintained by Merton.
Nothing caustic comes indoors
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in the heated dip tank in the van. Cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products, so no chemical smell is left behind. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave. There is no premium-area surcharge and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.

A two-oven AGA is £143. It needs to be off and cold before we start, so switch it down the night before if you can.

It is a separate line, £23–28 by type, and an extractor hood is £28.
