A 1930s semi or terrace was usually built with a small back kitchen and a space for a gas cooker. Many have been extended or refitted since, some with a built-under double below the worktop. Whatever is there now, the work starts with dust sheets. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, and the door is split where its design allows.

Parking around the Collier Row crossroads
The council car park at Rex Close, by the crossroads, charges from 7am to 6pm and is free on Sundays. On Collier Row Road, Clockhouse Lane and Collier Row Lane most pay bays run from 8.30am to 6.30pm (a Collier Row Road service road bay is 9am to 5pm), with a three-hour limit and no return within two hours, and they are free on Sundays as well.
