Chatsworth Road was laid out around 1867 along a field path from Brooksby's Walk to Pond Lane, now Millfields Road, by the London & Suburban Land Co., whose Clapton Park estate grew on either side of it.
Clapton Park since 1867
By about 1870 the space between the new road and Lower Clapton Road was filled with the western ends of Clifden, Glenarm and neighbouring roads. Farther east, 61 acres let to a market gardener for five and three-quarter years from 1867 were then taken for the east part of the estate, and in 1872-3 plots in Elderfield Road went to Edward Withers for a second scheme, Clapton Park No. 2. Around 1900 the streets reached south of Redwald Road towards Homerton. The name also had a political life: from 1900 to 1936 Clapton Park was one of the eight wards of the old Metropolitan Borough of Hackney.
The 20th century rebuilt much of the east side. Hackney had 69 maisonettes ready around Daubeney Road by 1928. The London County Council's Nye Bevan estate, with a 12-storey tower, stood between Glyn Road and Pedro Street by 1964, and the east end of Rushmore Road was taken for a shopping precinct that also served the 19-storey Willington Court and its neighbours of about 1970. Two more 19-storey blocks, Norbury Court in Mandeville Street and Ambergate Court in Daubeney Road, came down in 1993. Most of the estate is now low-rise.
North of Millfields Road, Orient Way and Caldecott Way stand on the old Clapton Stadium. Clapton Orient moved there in 1896 and played its last match on 3 May 1930, greyhounds raced there from 1928, and after it closed on 1 January 1974 it was demolished and the Millfields estate replaced it in the early 1980s.
In a terrace house or a low-rise flat the racks, trays, side runners and fan cover come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the oven cavity and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, over dust sheets. The door is split where its design allows.
Houses and renting in King's Park ward
The Millfields estate and the streets east of Chatsworth Road are in King's Park ward; the streets west of the road are in Lea Bridge ward. At the 2021 Census King's Park ward had about 4,930 households, of which 27.0% lived in a terraced house, almost twice Hackney's 13.9%, and 54.1% in a purpose-built block of flats. Social renting was the main tenure at 52.1%, split between the council (25.1%) and housing associations (27.0%); 28.1% owned and 19.0% rented privately.

Parking on Millfields Road and Chatsworth Road
Chatsworth Road, Sewdley Street, Chippendale Street, Millfields Road and the Millfields estate are all in zone N (Homerton and Lower Clapton). The council's zone list puts its controlled hours at 7.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are outside those hours, and a weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one; nearer the marshes, part of zone N also has Olympic Park event-day hours, so read the plate.

Is Clapton Park part of Upper Clapton?
Not by the old manorial line: from about 1800 the manor courts treated the part of Clapton north of Lea Bridge Road as Upper Clapton, and Clapton Park is south of it, around and east of Chatsworth Road. The streets round Clapton Common and Springfield Park are on the Upper Clapton page.
Does the 7.30am start in zone N matter?
Only on weekdays. Between 7.30am and 6.30pm the van needs a bay where a permit or visitor voucher is valid; outside those hours the council says no permit or voucher is needed, though yellow lines and disabled bays still apply.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, including putting it back together and heating it for you to check.
Is everything cleaned in my kitchen?
The cavity and door glass are cleaned by hand, normally in your kitchen. The racks, trays, side runners and fan cover come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Some teams use a heated tank when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen. The price is the same either way, and you can ask when you book.
