Kinnaird Avenue in Grove Park was built on the site of Grove House, which was pulled down in 1928; a house had stood there since 1412.
Grove Park, the Duke of Devonshire's estate
The Duke of Devonshire, owner of Chiswick House, acquired Grove House and developed its grounds south of the railway as Grove Park. A layout of large mansions in spacious grounds was published in 1867, the same year the Grove Park Hotel went up by the station, one of the estate's first buildings. Hounslow's appraisal calls it the first large Victorian housing estate in Chiswick, and the street names follow the family: Cavendish, Hartington, Spencer, Bolton.
The Grove House site filled with interwar houses. The Kinnaird Park Estate Company bought it and, from the late 1920s into the early 1930s, built Kinnaird Avenue, Devonshire Gardens and the adjoining stretches of Grove Park Road and Hartington Road; the Kinnaird Avenue houses, designed by L. H. Harrington, date from about 1930, and most of Devonshire Gardens is two-storey semis. Hounslow designated the Grove Park conservation area on 11 January 2002.
In the census area round Kinnaird Avenue, Hartington Road and the riverside estates (Hounslow 008B), 24.3% of the 771 households lived in a semi in 2021, 19.8% in a terraced house and 39.0% in a purpose-built flat. Most owned their home, 62.3%, and 34.6% owned outright; 24.5% rented privately.

Three post-war estates between Hartington Road and the Thames

- Chiswick Quay, early 1970s
- 68 three-storey town houses round a marina on the site of Grove House's old lake, with a layout influenced by Port Grimaud in the south of France
Hounslow's parking map shows no zone across Thames Village or Chiswick Quay, so ask whoever manages your estate where a visiting van may stop. Where cars are kept out of the centre, as at the Staithe, check where visitors can park. In a three-storey town house the kitchen can be on the ground or the first floor; tell us which.

A two-hour parking zone round Chiswick station
Hounslow's map puts Kinnaird Avenue, Devonshire Gardens, Spencer Road, Bolton Road, Cavendish Road, the east-west arm of Grove Park Road and Hartington Road south of it in the Chiswick Station zone, controlled from 10am to noon, Monday to Friday. Grove Park Gardens is in the Riverview zone, with the same two hours. A weekday visit that starts at noon falls outside both, as does any weekend visit, and weekends cost the same as weekdays. The council calls the map guidance; the signs in the street decide.
