The footpath at Strand-on-the-Green floods at high water on spring tides, and the 18th-century houses along it have no road at the front at all, only Thames Road running behind. If the van cannot sit outside your door, the tank still works. The runners just take a longer walk.
Georgian frontage, modern oven behind it
Chiswick Mall and Old Chiswick are Georgian and Victorian houses on the north side of the water, and the kitchens in them have almost all been redone at the back. What turns up is a mixed bag. Range cookers at 90cm are common in the rebuilt rear extensions, a proper two-oven AGA shows up more often on the Mall than anywhere else we cover in W4, and the flats in the converted houses off Grove Park Terrace run to single integrated ovens instead. Can your van get to Strand-on-the-Green?
Yes. The access restrictions are aimed at through traffic and are read by number plate cameras, not by a permit list, so a van coming to your address and stopping is not a through movement. We park on Thames Road and carry.
Does the tide affect the booking?
Only at the far end. If your door is on the towpath and a spring tide is due, tell us and we will pick a slot either side of high water rather than wade the kit through.
Do you clean AGAs properly, or just wipe them?
Properly. A two-oven AGA is £143, the ovens and the plates are done, and it is heat-tested and signed off before we go.
