Chislehurst's High Street began as a hamlet called Prickend, later Chislehurst West, and by the end of the 1890s it was becoming the village's main shopping street, with a new police station built in 1892. Red Hill and Greenway, on the north-west edge
On the north-west edge of the Victorian village, building came later. Greenway was laid out around 1931, part of a ribbon of building that ran from the Sidcup by-pass to Elmstead; Tom Bushell, the local historian who wrote Imperial Chislehurst, lived at No. 48 from 1931 until 1976. Around Greenway and Marsham Close half the households (49.8%) were in a terrace in 2021, while round Red Hill and Ingleby Way 45.8% lived in a detached house and 42.5% owned their home outright.
