In the late 18th century Chingford had three small villages, each about a mile from the old church: Chingford Green in the north, Low Street in the north-west and Chingford Hatch in the east.
The old hamlet on Hatch Lane
The name now means the streets around Hatch Lane, the A1009, at the foot of Friday Hill. A small Wesleyan chapel was built in Hatch Lane in 1862. At the lane's western end, on Larkshall Road, St Anne's began as a mission room in 1891 and became a parish church in 1953, and the Larks Hall pub is a timber-framed building that was Larks Hall Farm until the 1980s.
