Most of the ovens we clean in E4 sit in interwar semi-detached houses, the 1930s stock that runs along The Ridgeway and the roads off Chingford Hatch. Those kitchens have room for a full-size cooker, so range cookers turn up here more than they do in the flats further south. A lot of these houses also have a driveway, which changes our day for the better. We park on the drive, run the tank a few feet from the back door, and get on with it.
The house types we see
Two patterns cover most of our Chingford bookings. The semi-detached family homes near Larkswood and towards Epping Forest often have a 90cm range with two cavities and a wide gas hob, which is the messiest surface a family kitchen produces. And the ex-council houses around Friday Hill and Chingford Hall tend to have a standard freestanding single or double oven. Both get the same treatment.
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out and soak in a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is no chemical smell left behind. We heat-test the oven and sign it off before we leave. A single runs about ninety minutes, a double nearer two hours, and a full range a bit longer again.

Getting to you
Chingford is the end of the line. The station is the terminus of the Overground run to Liverpool Street, and E4 sits in zone 5, which puts us a fair way out on the map but well inside our coverage. Driveway parking on most of the semi roads means we rarely need a permit, unlike the parts of Waltham Forest closer in. Where a house has no drive, the streets around The Ridgeway parade are usually free to park on during the day.

Is there a smell after you finish?
No. The strong products stay in the tank in the van. Everything done inside your kitchen uses non-caustic products by hand, so the oven is ready to use straight away.
Can you park on my driveway?
That is the easiest option and we prefer it. Running the tank a few steps from your back door keeps the whole job quick and tidy.
